The Power of Your Story
There’s nothing like a great movie to captivate our attention and compel inspiration. Watching a great story unfold on the big screen, transports us to a different world. It's powerful and magnetic, drawing hearts, young and old. The proof is in the eyes of the audience and the pocketbooks of movie makers - to the tune of nine billion dollars in 2023! There is no denying it. People love stories.
My husband and I see this hunger alive and thriving in our grandchildren. We have the privilege of babysitting often as their parent’s job schedule creates lots of opportunities to be together. Any time a sleepover is required, I can bank on three requests: Pizza for dinner, waffles for breakfast and real life bedtime stories. Top most requested stories: Grandpa’s crazy childhood tales. He has a long line up and is on demand - regularly. He told them to our children and tradition continues. We have seen this hunger expressed in two generations. Whether it’s to laugh or learn - our children want to see our lives.
Gather together highlights of your story. Pull together moments faced with hard choices and no immediate answers. Tell of those lonely times - and how they shaped character and compassion within you. It doesn’t have to be complex or complicated. Our kids need to see that challenges are normal and fear is felt by everyone. Loneliness comes in waves and can be walked through. Your story of resilience can fuel their story of strength. A simple, honest, expression of your experiences, feelings and how you navigated them becomes an inspiration piece for your child’s crossroad moments.
When we shape and share our stories, pointing to the wisdom of God, seeds of belief are planted and watered in the heart of the listener. Your story is like water to their soul. Use your story, revealing your journey of hope and trust in God. He is always at work, stirring courage, captivating hearts and assuring our kids - and His - that He is faithful.
